  • Spring brunch at Rasai

What a treat!! Met my dear friend for a delicious brunch at Rasai in Fremont. The dinner tasting menu is date night-ey; brunch is super laid-back with big, sharable plates. Casual enough for a nice outing with kids, elegant enough for bringing your parents to meet your boyfriend for the first time. The food is…

  • Sightseeing in Seattle

Made our rounds of Seattle landmarks: Pike Place Market, Kerry Park… and 85°c Bakery for a 85° day. This playground scares the bejesus out of me but the boys LOVE it. I can’t even look when they’re up there. Who builds a 40-foot rope climber for children?? (It’s Sunset Neighborhood Park in Renton.) Before flying…

  • 4 fantastic playgrounds on Bainbridge

My brother came to visit and every single guy’s idea of a perfect day is four playgrounds and an ice cream shop, right? Beautiful day exploring Bainbridge Island. 1️⃣ Suquamish playground, on the Port Madison Indian Reservation, about a 15-minute drive from the Bainbridge ferry terminal. • New Kent playground is out of this world

Happy birthday, Paul! My baby turned 8, and here is a fully accurate photo of his personality: Paul requested a red panda cake, so this is what I made for him while he was at school: Paul’s GQ cover:

  • The best vegetables are the ones that taste like nothing

Paul, future food critic, on vegetables: “The best is when they taste like nothing.” Recently found these Veggies Made Great muffins (from the freezer section at Costco) where the first ingredient is veggies but YOU CAN’T TASTE THEM. Yay for sneaking in secret zucchini and carrots!

  • Art + ice cream on the Ave

Art + ice cream field trip to the Ave. Stevie Shao’s mural on the Crossroads building (next door to the U Bookstore) is even better in person. I talked to this amazing young artist for this Seattle Times story.

  • Bug’s Eye View at Woodland Park Zoo

Got a sneak peak of the animatronic bug exhibit at Woodland Park Zoo today! The exhibit opens Monday (May 1) and runs through Sept. 4. $5 extra on top of admission, $4 for members. Giant hairy spiders are my worst nightmare — good thing these guys are robots.

  • Tulips and ice cream

Overheard: “SMILE. If you want ice cream…” So I’m not the only mom who does this! Our annual Skagit Valley tulip visit (RoozenGaarde), followed by our annual Skagit Valley ice cream visit (Snow Goose Produce Market).
