  • Reset

A good reset is so satisfying. Well, for about 20 minutes, anyway, before the house blows up again. Before: After: Before: After:

  • I scream, you scream for taiyaki ice cream!

Fishy ice cream! We got matcha/black sesame twist with rainbow sprinkles in a taiyaki with adzuki beans. Nom nom nom! From Matcha Man Ice Cream in Georgetown.

  • Piano lesson

Windows open, hand sanitizer ready, masks on. First in-person piano lesson since March 2020!

  • Finally, rain

Our yard is even drier and crunchier than usual, 51 days without rain. It finally misted a tiny bit yesterday morning.

  • 8 new playgrounds for 2021!

One new playground in Everett, two in Renton, THREE in Kirkland, one in Kent and one in Seattle. My story and photos are in The Seattle Times! Totem Lake in Kirkland: Looks a lot like one of our other favorite playgrounds, Surrey Downs, and it has an elevator too! Also, why is the Eastside so…

Volunteer Park is nice on a hot day because it’s shaded by mature trees. There’s a big wading pool Saturday-Tuesday too.

  • Blueberry picking

Ticked off another delicious item on our summer bucket list: blueberry picking! We go every year, except I think I missed the year Paul was a newborn. The boys have gotten better at picking berries — we managed to pick a whole $3 worth this time; usually it’s like 26 cents. But really, 90 percent…

  • Row, row, row your boat

Because Sunday Sails are on hold, the Center for Wooden Boats has two rowboats you can reserve for free. I picked a later time slot (nicer light) but I hadn’t realized what party scene Lake Union is on a Saturday night! Butt cheeks and beer, and very loud music. The other rowboat was reserved by…
