  • Typing Club

Very professional! Paul wants to do everything Joseph can, including learning to type.

  • 4th of July

Happy 4th of July! No block party this year, but we decorated bikes and had a 2-person parade.

  • Backyard “pool”

With all the pools closed this year (not sure if I want to be swapping germs at a public pool anyway) I finally bit the bullet this year and invested in this $10 wading pool from Target. The boys are SO happy. They both just *barely* fit inside, but played for hours anyway and turned…

  • Art walk & bubble tea in the ID

I stopped by Ping’s Dumplings to buy frozen dumplings, and Ping tried to give us free bubble tea. Whaat?! Her dumplings ($20 for 50) and her bubble tea ($3.50) were delicious and we will be back. We went for an art walk to check out all the murals in the neighborhood. Who am I kidding,…

  • Fun on the waterfront

I was initially nervous about going to the waterfront for this ParentMap story, but it’s crickets down there. Employees literally outnumbered visitors. Not great for business, but great for social distancing. Also, street parking is free, and there’s lots of it.

  • Strawberries

Our strawberries are in! From a strawberry plant I didn’t even know we had? The good news is that we’ve got tons of berries. The bad news is that we grew the world’s tiniest berries. Our entire harvest will be about two handfuls worth.

  • Olympic Sculpture Park

Hellooo, Seattle! Our first “non-essential” outing. The pavillion (and restrooms) at OSP was closed, so we kept the visit short. Lots of people out enjoying the day, everyone keeping their distance.   . . .       . .

  • Xiao long bao

I think I’ve died and gone to xiao long bao heaven. Fifty frozen dumplings for $30, from Xiao Chi Jie in Bellevue. Ordering and delivery was fast and easy, and then it only took 11 minutes in the steamer to turn my house into a personal Din Tai Fung. Free delivery over $50, $5 off first-time order…

  • Summer camp-inspired fun

There’s no substitute for the hours of play supervised by SOMEONE ELSE, but we can create summer camp-inspired fun in the backyard. Lots of ideas in my story in The Seattle Times.   This year especially, I LOVE that we have this amazing back yard. . . . The old baby tub is still very…

  • Travel destinations to book now

Desperate for a change of scenery? Yeah, me too. I scrapped our East Coast trip this summer, and I’m researching vacations within driving distance instead. Here’s a couple good ones for families in Washington in my ParentMap story here.
