Ferry ride to Bainbridge
It was a beautiful day for a ferry ride, and apparently half of Seattle thought so too. I’ve never seen such a long line for walk-ons or for Mora’s. We had a fun day walking around Winslow, and the boys were super excited to spot a BC plate (!) on the ferry.

Low tide at the Olympic Sculpture Park

Dinosaur Discovery at Woodland Park Zoo
Dinosaur robots at the zoo! This super cool exhibit just opened and runs through Labor Day. The guy who designed the dinos also worked on the “Jurassic Park” movie. Here’s my story for ParentMap. After visiting the dinosaurs, we made the big loop around to see the rest of the animals, something we haven’t done…

Chinese soul food
I got to talk to Hsiao-Ching Chou about her new cookbook for the cover story of this month’s Seattle’s Child magazine. “Vegetarian Chinese Soul Food” is filled with really straightforward recipes, really beautifully photographed. It’s all the food I grew up eating — and never learned to make. Shao bing youtiao! (Does flour count as…

Tulip festival 2021
Things got so bad last year the tulip growers had to compost their flowers. We are so thankful we got to visit the flower farms this year. For four weeks in the spring, there is no prettier place.
